After 10 years as Principal Horn with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and guest principal with many other orchestras in Australia and overseas, I found my true calling as a teacher and was tenured as Head of Brass at The University of Melbourne for over 6 years. Many former students have orchestral positions all over the world, but the many students who used what they learnt through their music education to propel themselves without fear in whatever career they chose are also inspirational.
10 years ago, the digital world provided opportunities to explore solving problems of geographical isolation in instrumental music education. I used this opportunity to leave my tenured position and begin a whole new journey. I have never been more creative than through solving business problems. What I learned in my musical career about how to overcome my fears on the concert stage and embracing the required preparation has all taken me to this point today. The creative world and the business world intersect in so many ways and I find myself in a unique position to help others on their journey.
