Hi, I´m Cristina and I love meeting and working with enthusiastic cello students from all over the world! Currently based in Vienna I divide my time between performing concerts as a soloist and chamber musician, creating new ensemble projects and teaching my students.

As a recitalist, soloist and chamber musician Cristina Basili has performed at various venues throughout Europe (Konzerthaus Vienna, Tonhalle Zürich, Gasteig Munich, Megaron Athens, Odessa Philharmonic Hall) and has been invited to play at international festivals such as the Pärnu Music Festival, Estonia, Yellow Barn Music Festival, USA, Riva Music Festival, Italy, the International Enescu Festival in Sinaia, Romania, Aigina and Nafplion Festivals, Greece, Jugendmusikfestival Coburg, Germany. Her chamber music partners include distinguished musicians such as Oleg Maisenberg, Anthony Marwood, Lucy Shelton, Antonio Meneses, Barbara Moser, Rainer Schmidt, Annely Peebo. As a soloist and orchestra musician she has collaborated with conductors Hobart Earle, Claudius Traunfellner, Vitaly Protasov, Francois-Xavier Roth, Benjamin Zander, Carl St Clair, Yoav Talmi, Uriel Segal, Michael Sanderling and Paavo Järvi.

Her concert schedule for next season includes solo debut appearances at the Megaron Concert Hall of Thessaloniki with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra and at the Konzerthaus Vienna with the Vienna Academic Orchestra.

She is prize winner of national and international competitions as „Prima La Musica“, Austria, International Cello Competition in Liezen/ Styria , Janigro International Competition for young cellists, Croatia, Lions Austria Music Competition, Brahms International Cello Competition.

She was a scholarship student at the Karajan Stiftung in Vienna and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy.

In 2011 she won a prize grant from the Rahn Kulturfonds in Zurich, which placed a master cello at her disposal.

Born into a Greek family of musicians in Vienna, Cristina started her cello studies at the age of six with Prof. Vladimir Malinovsky. Since 2005, she has also worked intensively with Prof. David Grigorian in Munich.

At the age of fifteen she met the renowned cellist Antonio Meneses and was asked to join his classes at the University of Arts in Berne where she graduated her studies under a scholarship of the Onassis Foundation Greece with a Master Performance Diploma in 2015. She also holds a graduate diploma from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles , where she studied with Ralph Kirshbaum.

In addition to her studies she has worked with renowned musicians such as Natalia Gutman, Frans Helmerson, Thomas Demenga, Claudio Bohórquez, Gustav Rivinius, Leonid Gorokhov, Alban Gerhardt, Benjamin Zander, Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi, Belcea Quartet and Hagen Quartet.

Cristina is also an enthusiastic teacher and has given masterclasses in Austria, Greece and Switzerland. She leads her own studio of young students at the Albrechtsberger music school in Vienna.

The young cellist is playing on an instrument made by Antonio Gibertini in 1844.
