Aaron McCoullough is a drummer, composer, educator, and bandleader based in Melbourne, Australia. He has recorded and toured internationally with many renowned musical practitioners resulting in several awards. As an ensemble leader, McCoullough has two self-released titles: 'Portrait of Thoughts' (2013) and 'Provenience' (2018). McCoullough holds a B.Mus (Hons), an MEd (TESOL), and is a current PhD candidate (Creative Arts). The endorsement of international drum manufacturers Los Cabos Drumsticks (Canada) and Sakae Drums (Japan) has continued to set McCoullough as a leading practitioner in the field of improvised music.
Aaron has taught professionally for 17 years. In this time, he has developed a range of teaching techniques to guide students to the achievement of their musical goals. He has assisted students with exams, audition preparation, exam accompaniment, and has been featured on adjudicating panels. Aaron is welcoming of students wishing to develop their drumming at all levels (beginner to advance) . Aaron's philosophy is to have students operate through an experience-based framework, where student reflection is encouraged to amplify learning at all levels.
