David Pell has been Principal Trombonist of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra since 2002, Bass Trombonist of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra since 2006, and a member of the True North Brass since 2018. He has also been a member of the Winnipeg Symphony, the Victoria Symphony and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Orchestra. He is a member of Toronto’s Esprit Orchestra and performs regularly on trombone, bass trumpet and euphonium with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec, Canadian Opera Company. He has also performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and the Thunder Bay Symphony, with the Stockholm Chamber Brass.
David is Artistic Director of the renowned Hannaford Street Silver Band and a member of two other treasures of Canadian brass music, the True North Brass Quintet, and the Canadian National Brass Project.
David is also faculty at the University of Toronto and the Glenn Gould Professional School of the Royal Conservatory of Music.
David appears on many recordings including the Canadian Brass recording, Brahms on Brass, playing Euphonium on the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s recording of Holst’s The Planets, Bass Trumpet on the TSO’s recording of the Rite Of Spring, and recordings by the Canadian National Brass Project, the Hannaford Band and True North Brass. He was Bass Trumpet soloist in the Canadian Opera Company’s acclaimed Ring Cycle and has played on many jingles and soundtracks.
I offer trombone and bass trombone lessons based on pedagogy I developed through extensive research into motor learning, skill acquisition, and optimal performance under pressure.
